Routing and queue design

Decide whether the printer is addressed by device, station, order type or item. Test what happens if it is offline: does output queue, reroute or disappear? The POS should make a failed print visible to staff and protect against an uncontrolled burst of stale tickets after reconnection.

Procurement and spares

Standardising on a small number of supported models can simplify paper, power supplies, cables and staff knowledge. Keep a spare only if it is configured, labelled and tested. An unopened device without the correct interface or driver is not an operational spare.
